THE JUNK MAN COMETH

SAT 14 MAY 2011 11:05am  Another week passes by.  The place is getting more cleaned up by the day. Moving out all the junk that's collected over the years. This is the real junk nobody would want. We have a man coming with a truck to haul it away. Last year we put out another bunch of stuff by the road and it was gone just like magic. These were items we've kept for years but now that they are gone I can't remember what any of it was. Michael, again has been very instrumental in moving and cleaning and burning.

Jackie has done a lot in clearing weeds and garlic mustard. We never did like spraying it and now you can't do that, but pulling it by hand has kept it down and eventually it should be gone. We're encouraging violets to take over. There are already large sections of them. They look good and are no maintenance.

Getting closer

And closer

And closer still

I can't forget the cherry blossoms. They burst out yesterday. These are a white cherry and very tasty, when the birds leave us some.
They look great against the foggy sky.

The thunder of the bikes has slowed today. Of course yesterday was Friday 13th  when tens of thousands of motorcycles flock to Port Dover, mostly to say they were there I guess. This was the only one this year so it was probably a large turnout. Also the 30th year I believe.

TAKE ME TO YOUR FOLLOWERS

MON 09 MAY 2011 5:14pm

If you are in my blog and cast your eyes over to the right you will see a gallery of smiling faces. These are people who claim to like my blog and have become FOLLOWERS. They receive every post I put out. They did this by pushing the Follower widget at the top of the faces. You can too! It’s free and I’d love to have you on the Back Porch with me.

Don’t forget to put your face with the others. Don’t be shy, you have a nice smile.

Also, you can be either public or private with your following, just push the appropriate button. So, hope to see you soon.

Also, while I’m at it, I finally figured out that I had the option to make COMMENTS easier to do. I re-set it and now you don’t have to sign in or anything, just go to the comment section and write it in.  And I will answer you. Honest.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL MOTHERS!

SUN 08 MAY 2011 4:30pm Had a good morning. Michael took us for breakfast in New Sarum, where we fortunately got the last reservation space. Since it was so busy there was actually less on the menu than on a regular day, but still a good feed. It's a cozy place with a big fireplace and tons of antiques littering the walls and display cases. My kind of decor, of course.

After, we stopped at Port Bruce to find the pier sprouting fisher-people, nets and lines at the ready. Just a perfect day down there for taking pictures, if you remembered to bring a camera.

Back at home, Michael is in burning mode clearing a huge amount of brush. Jackie had a walk on our beach and found a ton of glass. Me, just doing this and that, as usual. Winding down for an early to bed, early to rise scenario. Going to bed with the sun up - yikes!

Here are some photos taken during our walks in the wet woods a few days ago.

SPRING ARRIVES SLOWLY BUT SURELY

SAT 07 MAY 2011 8:07pm First 6 day week so far. Getting the hanging baskets out for Mom's day. Rode my Suzuki most of the week.

Colton was 2 years old yesterday. He's a real cute little guy. Doesn't talk much yet but smart as a whip and never stops moving.

This time of year is so amazing with the greenery slowly appearing; each day just a touch more, a real slight of hand by the master conjurer, until suddenly, the whole land is lush as can be. I was down in Niagara today and some fruit trees are already blooming. I found a grape hyacinth in our field. And, of  course, took a snap, as I did with the daffodil.

SPRING EVENING

Also sat on my back porch enjoying the sun. Looking forward to lots of time there in the old rocker as the days and evenings warm and stretch into infinity.

Jackie is already in bed, having worn herself to a frazzle the past two days. Taught her Qigong class (to find out more about what she's up to go here) today and yesterday took the jewellry on the road to Hamilton with Kimberley. It was a noon presentation at the University. Didn't sell much but felt the contacts were worth it.

Listening to Matt Mays a great musician originally from Hamilton, brought up in Halifax. He has had kind of a funny career. His early records are very gentle with a twinge of country with the pedal steel in there. Then as he went on he got rockier with each release. Most young people do it the other way around. But, he's good no matter which end of the spectrum he's at. I listen to him a lot.
